Why we started our path to be debt free.
Cody and I noticed our income wasn’t working for us. Our bank accounts were separate and we were paying our bills like we were single. We each had car and motorcycle payment. I had TWO student loans and a medical bill debt that had already gone to collections. To top it off, we had a new mortgage bleeding us dry. We were a mess and needed an exit strategy. We also wanted to start a family, yet there was NO WAY we were willing to bring a child in this world to burden them with parents who were not financially stable.
Researching for ways to free up some money. Cody stumbled upon Dave Ramsey’s podcast. He came home asking me if I was OK selling his car to help pay off our loans. A 2011 Camaro SS – our date car. That’s when I knew Cody was serious about changing our money habits. I was 100% on board. We read ‘The Total Money Make Over‘ – rented from the local library. We borrowed ‘Financial Peace University’ from family. Nearly a year later we had reached our goal of being consumer debt free.
It is an amazing feeling to no longer be bound by the limits debt held over us.
